ABOUT US

_0008276-2.jpg

Garforth Villa Football Club has been established as a grassroots football club since 1970 and the Club first began as a junior football club. In 2020 we celebrated our 50th anniversary.  We are a Charter Standard Club with the Football Association (FA) - this means we are affiliated to our county FA (West Riding County FA) and comply with the rules and regulations set down by the FA. All our Team Managers and Coaches are FA Level 1 qualified as a minimum.

As a grassroots football club we currently caters for boys and girls from the ages of 4 years up to 18 years. In 2023 we entered our first women's open age team into the Garforth league. We are working very hard to establish further senior teams.  We have over 500 boys and girls, starting from the age of 4 in our Mini Villa sessions, to playing organised football at Under 7 (U7) to Under 18 (U18).  Teams currently compete in the Garforth Junior League, West Riding Girls League & the Selby Junior League.

We also have a well established and popular Walking Football aptly nicknamed 'Garforth Villa Strollers'. Our Women's team plays in the West Riding Women's Beginner League. we also have a Vets team.

Over the years our Club has been very successful in winning league titles across all age groups as well as key cup competitions, e.g. District cups.  Our coaching philosophy is at the heart of everything we do and this has helped many players go on to sign for professional clubs. We currently have former players playing for clubs, including Hull City, Doncaster Rovers, Barnsley and Leeds United where our former player, Jack Jenkins, has signed professional forms with the club and has broken into the U23 side. Oli McBurnie who plays for Sheffield United in the Premier League also played for our club.

As a grassroots football club, Garforth Villa Football Club will continue to develop the football activities we are able offer. We have some exciting plans, which over the coming months and years will see us firmly concrete our status as one of Yorkshire’s finest grassroots football clubs, ensuring the long-term future of the club.

If you are looking into what grassroots clubs can offer you, in terms of football activities and development of the player or coach, then Garforth Villa Football Club is perfectly positioned to be able to offer you our expertise in football coaching and learning and player development.

Our Committee is made up of people with vast experience with a common goal of helping to develop young people. Minos Perdios, our Chair, has a UEFA B qualification as well as an MSc in Sports Coaching. He has set up football youth development programmes both in the UK and abroad. Our Committee are great believers that through sport we can have a positive influence on people and, through a modern holistic approach, develop the whole person.

We are company limited by guarantee and are 'not for profit'. This means that our members do not take any profits from the company. Any profit made by the company is re-used for the good of the Club and its members, which includes our players.
